There is not a single corner of our life's magnificent canvas that has not been touched by Phil's brush
Phil has spent decades filling Asheville with color, now it is our turn!
If you have seen the Snake Oil Medicine Show, you have been immersed in the wonderful colors of Phil Cheney's art. His work is bold, kind, and full of the kinds of characters that tell magical stories: roosters, suns with faces, dancing vegetables, creatures nobody else would think of.... radiations of infinite joy.
Without the walls along the sides of the halls, which have kept us within their boundaries for so long, we would run freely between tall hedgerows, down alleyways, barefoot in the rain.

What is happening
Phil has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He is in treatment now. Treatment takes time, energy, and money, and it keeps him out of the studio, which is where his income comes from.
Your gift goes straight to Phil to cover medical bills, rent, groceries, gas to appointments, and all the other things that consume our life, so he can put his attention on getting well.
Phil does not like asking for help. So we are asking for him.
Pick a color
Every painting starts with one stroke. Five dollars matters just as much as five hundred to the person on the receiving end.
- Cadmium Yellow, $15. A bright little dab.
- Cadmium Red, $35. One good, confident stroke.
- Ultramarine, $75. A whole sky.
- Phthalo Green, $150. A hillside of hedgerows.
- Dioxazine Purple, $300. The full mural treatment.
- Titanium White, any amount. Goes with everything.
Monthly gifts help most. Treatment is not a one-time cost, and a steady $10 a month lets Phil plan.
Organized with Phil's blessing, on behalf of his friends, his fans, and everyone he has ever painted next to.
